Ganjifa Cards of Mysore
With a legacy spanning over 300 years, Ganjifa cards were cherished by KrishnarajaWodeyar III of Mysuru, a skilled player himself. Often called “God’s play,” the game is played with cards featuring divine images, each surrounded by exquisite, precious craftsmanship. This traditional art thrives in Mysuru and its neighbouring regions, where skilled artisans continue to handcraft and paint each card by hand. The cards are celebrated for their intricate miniature details, the use of natural colours, low-relief artistry, and unique brush strokes. Each figure is carefully rendered with distinctive postures and expressions, embodying the rich tradition and meticulous craftsmanship that define Mysuru’s Ganjifa cards.
