Navalgund Dhurries
In the 16th century, amid the shifting power struggles between the Deccan Sultanate and the Vijayanagara Empire, the Jamkhana weavers sought sanctuary on the Hill of Peacocks—Navalgund. Leaving behind the conflict-ridden Bijapur, they migrated en-masse, not in flight, but in defence of a legacy. At the heart of their craft lies the KhadayMagga, a rare vertical loom used exclusively by women. With it, they created striking geometric patterns—designs as deliberate as they are symbolic, carried across generations with quiet devotion.
This exodus was no ordinary displacement. It was a pledge to preserve tradition, a journey of survival through artistry.
Have you watched the women of the Sheikh Sayeed’s at their looms? In their hands, history is not told—it is woven.
Care Tips: Dry cleaning recommended.
