GI Crafts

With the echoes for ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Local to Global’ gaining prominence across the country the significance of ancient and heritage products come to the fore. One such interesting category of products are called the ‘Geographical Indications’ (GI) tagged products which are traditional legacies of any State or any region with a historical context and uniqueness that it brings to a specific region or geography. These products have the enormous potential and power to positively impact and transform the socio economic sections representing the marginalised artisans of the region. Karnataka prides to home to a rich treasure trove of such products and hold the lion’s share of the pie in the country, numbering 48, out of an aggregate of 651 GI products registered pan Indiaas on date. We are happy to announce that out of the 48 GI Crafts of Karnataka KSHDCL has registered 8 handicrafts under its name. The State has also pioneered an exclusive first of its kind Policy to protect, preserve and promote the GI products of the state.
